The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question

On January 25, Archbishop Bernardito Auza, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the UN, gave an intervention during the Security Council Open Debate on the Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question.

In his statement, Archbishop Auza said that the Holy See deplores the sufferings of millions in the Middle East due to armed conflicts and summoned the Security Council to apply the remedies described in the UN Charter to end the humanitarian crises in the region. He called for an urgent resumption to the dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians toward a negotiated two-state solution and urged all nations to respect the historical status quo of Jerusalem.
