On March 27, Archbishop Bernardito Auza, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the UN, gave the Spring Cassamarca Chair Lecture at Fordham, University in the Bronx on the theme of “Pope Francis and the United Nations on the Environment.”

In his lecture, Archbishop Auza concentrated on Pope Francis’ call for an integral ecology that unites concern for our common home with care for our brothers and sisters who share that home. He addressed the ethical, spiritual, scientific, technological, economic and political dimensions of an integral ecology and used them as a prism to analyze various UN agreements on the environment, from the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Kyoto Protocol, The Paris Agreement, the Special Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the Katowice Climate Package, and the proposal for a Global Compact on the Environment.
