Archbishop Auza
Concludes His Tenure
On December 3, before departing for his new assignment as Apostolic Nuncio to Spain and Andorra, Archbishop Bernardito Auza celebrated Mass in the chapel of the Holy See Mission with staff and interns of the Mission. He described his five-year tenure in New York as "truly blessed years" and thanked the Mission staff for their collaboration.
"This Mission is like a church in miniature in which we go out from this chapel united with Pope Francis, seeking to carry out the Great Commission, seeking to enrich the nations with the wisdom of reason purified by faith,” he said in his homily. "I will miss you and this work very much.”
Upon his arrival in Madrid, he was alternate delegate to Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See, at the COP25 Conference being held on the environment, a topic with which he was very familiar from his work at the United Nations.
His successor, Archbishop Gabriele Caccia, arrives in the middle of January. Until then, Msgr. Fredrik Hansen will serve as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim.

Transforming Conflicts into
Dialogue Opportunities
Monsignor David Charters of the Holy See Mission participated on November 4 in a panel discussion Transforming Conflicts into Dialogue Opportunities organized by Rondine Citadella della Pace and Caritas Internationalis. In his remarks, he drew on the experience of his years serving in the Central African Republic and his 14 months covering the United Nations Security Council.

Internship Program
On December 3 our current Fall Interns and Holy See Mission staff members at the Residence of the Holy See with Mr. Anthony Viscogliosi and representatives of Viscogliosi Bros. LLC who are generous benefactors of the Holy See Mission Internship Program.
The Internship Program at the Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations provides the opportunity for bright, Catholic, college graduates or graduate students to gain invaluable experience assisting the work of the Holy See in its multilateral work at the UN.
We are now accepting applications for the Summer 2020 which runs from June 1 through the end of August. The application deadline is January 1 for the upcoming Summer Session. For further information, please visit here:
