New York, NY, Oct. 14 – Yesterday afternoon before the Sixth Committee of the General Assembly, Archbishop Francis Chullikatt addressed the topic of the rule of law at the national and international levels. Human intelligence and the intelligibility of human nature “should enable those persons entrusted with the making of laws and their enforcement to promulgate just laws that serve and protect the common good of the human family” he said. The dignity of every human being can be known through natural human reason. He stated that what can be understood of what is good and true must be incorporated into the law-making process so as to account for the social consequences of human dignity. Grounding the making of law with “the seeking of truth... gives expression to the law inscribed on the human heart”, he said.
