On November 6, Archbishop Bernardito Auza, the Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations, gave an intervention during the debate of the Fourth Committee of the General Assembly dedicated to Agenda Item 53, on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

In his statement, Archbishop Auza said that the work of the UNRWA is invaluable and increasingly important because of armed conflicts in the Middle East and the greater need for humanitarian assistance for a growing number of Palestinian Refugees. The situation in Syria is doubly alarming since more than 500,000 Palestinian refugees are registered in the war-torn country. He reiterated the need for the Israel and Palestine to co-exist in peace, and said that recent attempts to move away from the Two-State solution are a cause for grave concern.
