Adoption of "Transforming our world: The 2030 agenda for sustainable development"
Statement of the Holy See upon adoption of “Transforming our world:The 2030 agenda for sustainable development” • Intergovernmental Negotiations on the Post-2015 Development Agenda • New York, 2 August 2015

Distinguished Co-facilitators:

My delegation would like to acknowledge and to thank you, Ambassador Kamau and Ambassador Donoghue, for your leadership in guiding this intergovernmental process. We are grateful for your tireless efforts and perseverance throughout this inclusive and transparent process that created a universal agenda, embracing the indispensable objective to eradicate poverty, in particular extreme poverty.

As others have already said, my delegation thinks that this is not a perfect document and has some objections that it will express when the document will be presented in the General Assembly.

At the end of the day, echoing the appeal that Pope Francis makes in Laudato Si’, my delegation hopes that this Agenda will truly constitute a directional shift by addressing sustainable development in an integrated manner, with strategies for solutions demanding an integral approach to combating poverty, restoring dignity to the underprivileged, and at the same time protecting nature.

Thank you, Co-facilitators.
